Master Builders Australia has released their most current ABS building activity data – and it shows the important role that the building and construction sector plays in Australia’s economy.

“The data shows the nation’s second largest industry ended last year strongly, with the value of work done growing by 8 per cent in the last quarter of 2017 and contributing more than $28 billion to the national economy.” – CEO Denita Wawn.

That $28 billion goes to job creation, supporting the lives and futures of young people attaining job-ready skills and empowers over 360,000 small building businesses in Australia.

December 2017 Quarter Provides Insights for 2018

While the value of work for new residential construction reduced by 5.4%, commercial construction grew by 14.8% – highlighting the immense potential for those pursuing commercial property development projects.

The result: 2018 could be the best year for commercial builders in more than a decade. Master Builders expects Australia’s total commercial construction activity to contribute $42 billion to the economy in 2017-2018.

With residential construction experiencing moderation, and the commercial sector rising, it’s an ideal time to plan and implement commercial projects.
